Queue Structure and Party Rules
Solo/Duo queue is the main competitive ladder. You can queue alone or with one partner, and the party must be within one tier of each other. This queue is designed to measure individual skill in a team environment and is the one most players mean when they talk about their rank. Flex queue allows parties of two, three, or five players and has its own MMR and ladder. It is designed for team-oriented play and is often used by friend groups, school teams, or clubs. In some regions, Flex queue populations are smaller, which can lead to longer queue times or wider rank spreads in lobbies. The rank you earn in Flex is separate from Solo/Duo and does not affect your Solo/Duo MMR. Your Solo/Duo rank is the more respected measure of individual skill because you cannot rely on a pre-made group to coordinate.
